About Me

My debut novel Phoenix Star – An Adventure of the Spirit was inspired by the outrageously strange road I took on my journey of self-discovery that landed me smack dab in the middle of a cult. Yes – a real live cult! Something that you only hear about once in a long while in the papers but you never actually know someone who’s experienced it and escaped.

Looking back I see that I had to lose myself in order to find myself.

More About Kiernan

My life was falling apart and I needed to get away from everything I knew to find the confidence to make some tough decisions. So off I went to the far away mysterious land of Egypt and pyramids. I was exhilarated, scared, confused, and an easy target for a cult leader looking for new blood in his circle of loyal followers.

The enchanting man had what seemed unearthly abilities as he lured me deep into his world and I believed he knew things about me I needed to discover and I would feel forever incomplete if I didn’t surrender.

A year later, on the last night of one of my visits to his home the FBI and State Police raided the house. It was the most terrifying experience of my whole life. During interrogation by the FBI I learned that my friends were being charged with conspiracy to commit murder. When it became obvious I didn’t know anything that could help the case I was released and told to go home to Canada.

I started putting the pieces of my life back together. It wasn’t easy and learning to trust others and myself took time. I lived day to day, never knowing if "Commander" would send someone to get me. I moved again, and again. I changed my name determined to start over.

I spent a great deal of time alone getting to know myself and after three years of healing from the experience I began to feel like there was something I needed to do – a reason for what happened. I began the process of reconnecting to my long buried desire of writing a novel. I knew I could turn my experience into a story people could relate to. One filled with Truth, insights, and inspiration to help people awaken to their own passion and find their inner strength against odds.

I had lost my way because I lacked self-love and looked outside of myself for validation and happiness. Now I am a new woman filled with a strong sense of self and a passion for living my purpose to touch other people’s lives with this message.

To those who wonder, yes I am Maya and Phoenix Star is (loosely) based on my story, mixed with a great deal of imagination of course.
